The Renick Freedom Celebration will be held this Saturday, June 30, and the day will be jam-packed with different activities for everyone to enjoy.
The Grand Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., with lineup starting at 9 a.m. and judging starting at 10 a.m. Trophies will be awarded for various categories. Parade line-up is located in the field across from the Renick Post Office, Entrance to the field is located across from Brownstown Road.
Have you picked out the cake and pie to enter in the Pie and Cake Contest? Pull out your favorite cake, pie, cookie and candy recipe and enter. Monetary prizes will be awarded in each of these categories: first place, $50; second place, $30; and third place, $20. Entries need to be checked in by 1:30 p.m. at the park. By the request of the festival attendees, they would like a chance to bid on your delectable treats, therefore, the committee has added a new rule for this year. We would like to auction off a second cake, pie, cookie or candy. Please note the new rules in each category including:
- The Best Baked Cake: the rules are simple, bring your favorite prepared cake, bring one cake to auction off and another for the judges to taste. Cakes will be judged on taste and overall appearance. Once judging is completed you may pick up your judged cake. Check-in is at 1:30 p.m.
- Best Baked Pie Contest: prepare your favorite pie, and bring one for judging and one to auction off. If you are entering a dairy pie, you must bring the pie on ice and in cooler, and you may pick up your judging pie following judging. Pies will be judged on taste and overall appearance. Pies need to be checked in by 1:30 p.m.
- Cookie Contest: Bring a baker’s dozen (13) of your favorite cookie, one for judging, and the other dozen will be added to a basket of entries to be auctioned off later in the evening. Cookies will be judged on taste and overall appearance
- Candy Contest: Bring a baker’s dozen (13) of your favorite candy, one for judging and the other dozen will be added to a basket of entries to be auctioned off later in the evening. Cookies will be judged on taste and overall appearance
