Progressive CEOS met on Mar. 11, 2025, at the residence of President Patty Gray. Members attending were Elsie Dunkle, Patty Gray, Sally Holliday, and Betty Jo McNeel.

President Gray called the meeting to order with a meditation and asking members, “What is your favorite spring flowers?” The members responded with roses, daffodils, and tulips as favorites.

The Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Betty Jo McNeel and were approved.

The Health Monitor Tip for March was pertaining to allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. We were advised to always check the labels for those having peanuts or other allergies.

Each member present received their 2025 Greenbrier Monroe Community Educational Outreach Service Yearbook.

“Your Grandson’s Not in Jail: Scams Targeting Senior Citizens” was the program presented by Patty Gray. Scammers tend to target seniors. People over the age of 60 filed 88,262 complaints of fraud according to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center in 2022, resulting in $31.1 Billion in losses to individuals. Some of the most common scams are telephone scams, IRS scams, Social Security scams, charity scams, online shopping, and financial scams.

Tips to dodge the scams included: stay informed, use Caller ID to screen calls, never give out your bank account number on the phone or by email, and be cautious about who you share your personal information with, especially online or over the phone.

The next meeting will be on Apr. 8. Lynn Humphreys will have the program on Emergency Preparedness 101.

All members present enjoyed delicious refreshments and fellowship.
