At a ceremony in the Lewisburg City Council Chamber, Mayor Beverly White read and signed the proclamation of Lewisburg’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Week which is scheduled for the week beginning with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration in Lewisburg on Jan. 19, 2026. The proclamation is a stirring document based on the words of Dr. King that call for us to turn away from hate.
Pictured at the proclamation ceremony are Mayor Beverly White (seated) with members of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration Committee standing behind her. Those committee members are Larry Davis (left), Clifford Curry, Chris Winston, Joe Chasnoff, Barbara Lutz, Wanda Johnson, and Joseph Lutz. Committee member Kelly Kemp had to leave before the photo was taken. Other members of the committee who could not attend were Darren Campbell, Twana Jackson, Gibbs Kinderman, Carl Perrin, Hailey Fitzgerald, and Jessica Levine.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration will begin at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 when people assemble at the Greenbrier County Courthouse for a march to the Lewisburg United Methodist Church. There will be a leisurely and free community lunch in Wesley Fellowship Hall followed by a 12:30 p.m. program in the sanctuary. Mayor Beverly White will read the Martin Luther King, Jr. Week proclamation near the beginning of that program.
