Greenbrier East High School sophomore Piper Baldwin was celebrated at this week’s Greenbrier County Board of Education meeting for winning first-place honors in the 2025 YWCA of Wheeling’s Project on Racism Contest. The contest honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while encouraging students’ creativity.
The competition included essays, five minute short films, and music created by the students inspired by the 2025 theme, “The surest way to be happy is to seek happiness for others,” a quote from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The annual contest is open to any student in grades 1 through 12 attending public, private, parochial, or home school in the State of West Virginia or any student under the age of twenty enrolled in a high school correspondence/GED program in the State of West Virginia.
