Lewisburg-On Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, Phyllis Doe, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 92.
Phyllis was born in Manhattan, NY, on May 30, 1929, as the youngest daughter to parents Pauline and Julius Katz.
She was a proud graduate of the High School for Music and Arts in New York City, and continued artistic endeavors throughout her life, including playing the guitar and singing with a group, acting and theater, and as a juried artist and instructor. She was full of wit, had sharp intellect, and a great sense of fun. She loved world travel and to recount her stories.
Phyllis grew up in Manhattan, NY, but moved her family, son Elliot, and daughters Michele, Denice, and Elyse, to Ridgewood, NJ in 1968. In later years, she settled in Lewisburg, where she loved going to the Greenbrier Valley Theater to see all types of performances, painting in classes at Carnegie Hall and, of course, playing bridge regularly and with great skill with a cherished group of friends.
Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Michael Keats; her Sister, Gloria Gordon; and four great loves: her first husband, father of her children, and great friend in later years, John (Jack) Gerard; her second cherished husband, Peter William Doe; her final partner, Paul Maschella; and her beloved son, Elliot Gerard.
What Phyllis loved and was most proud of wer her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; her son, Elliot Gerard, with grandchildren, Jessica Gerard and husband Gilead Goldfarb, with great-grandchildren, Lena and Daniel, Jaymie Gerard and husband Gebhardt Zurburg, with great-grandchildren, Samuel and Acadia; her daughter, Michele Gilbert and husband Douglas, with grandchildren Danielle Gilbert and partner Benjamin Riley, Sarah Layman and husband James, with great-grandson Jack; her daughter, Denice Gerard Osbourne, with grandchildren Willow Gerard, Isaiah and Avadney Osbourne; and her daughter Elyse Gerard.
She will be greatly missed by her nieces, Lori Fitzgerald, Melissa Yurukso, Judy Plumber, and Judy Cappello.
The family will hold a memorial celebration at a later (post Covid-19) date and wish any respects to be paid through donations to the Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Memory of Phyllis Doe, P.O. Box 494, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
