Pauline Butler Fernandez

White Sulphur Springs-Pauline “Polly” Butler Fernandez, 83, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, Mar. 22, 2015.

Polly was born Apr. 8, 1931, to Glenna and Arthur W. Butler on the Butler Farm in Irasburg, VT.

Polly was the Valedictorian of Orleans High School Class of 1949. While in High School she was the statistician and score keeper for the high school baseball team on which three of her brothers played. After graduation she answered an ad in a travel magazine recruiting servers at The Greenbrier. She worked as a waitress for 15 years and that is where she met her husband who had also answered an ad.

She was recently preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jose “Pepe” Fernandez.

Polly has three of her ten siblings (five boys and five girls) still living: Florence Tillinghast of York, PA, Frances and wife Phyllis Butler of Hardwick, MA and Bernard Butler of Barton, VT. She has four children, Jose “Pepito” Fernandez of Gainesville, VA, Donna Fernandez and husband Craig Kaderavek of Lebanon, VA, Marsha Fernandez and friend Kevin Powell of Frankford and Anthony and wife Michelle Fernandez of York, SC. In addition, there are three grandchildren, Christina “Maria” Fernandez of Atlanta, GA, Nicholas Fernandez of Conway, SC and Olivia Fernandez of York, SC.

Polly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a gifted knitter and seamstress. She enjoyed making and gifting outfits for newborns. She volunteered quite often at St. Charles Borromeo. She was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout Leader for her children. She could often be found chauffeuring the neighborhood elderly to appointments.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, Mar. 20, at Shanklin Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass Saturday, Mar. 21, at 11 a.m. at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church will be followed by a Celebration of Life afterwards.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to either the Hospice Care Center of Lewisburg, 223 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901 (304-645-2700) or the Catholic Charities of WV for White Sulphur Springs, 114 W. Nina Catherine Honaker

Fairlea-Nina Catherine Honaker, 86, passed away Saturday, Mar. 21, 2015, at her home in Fairlea.

Born May 29, 1928, at Pembroke, WV, she was a daughter of the late Rupert Mitchell and Elva Mac Viers Spencer.

Nina attended the Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church and was an administrative assistant for Branckerich & Associates.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Norman E. Honaker in 2007.

She is survived by: her daughter and best friend, Joanna Honaker (Rick) of White Sulphur Springs; three sons, Greg Honaker (Becky) of White Sulphur Springs, Harry “Butch” Honaker of Ronceverte and Mike Spencer (Mary Jane) of Covington, VA; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan, Emily, James and Joey Honaker and Troy and Jamie Collins; great-grandson, Wyatt Honaker; and sister, Mary Morgan of Columbia, SC.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Mar. 24, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, where Elder Arnold Morgan officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte.

Visitation was on Monday evening, Mar. 23, at the funeral home.

Madge Elaine

Shawver Spencer

White Sulphur Springs-Madge Elaine Shawver Spencer, 62, died Saturday, Mar. 21, 2015, at the White Sulphur Springs Family Care Center after an extended illness.

Born Feb. 22, 1953, in Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Jacqueline Ruth Whitten Shawver.

Madge was a 1971 graduate of Greenbrier East High School. While her health permitted her to work, she was an assistant manager of a convenience store. She was of the Protestant faith. She loved gardening and working with flowers. Madge also enjoyed crocheting and watching the birds, especially hummingbirds.

Preceding her in death, other than her parents, was her husband, Stanley “Bean” Spencer, Jr.

Survivors include: two sons, Steve Ray Spencer and Ernie Spencer both of White Sulphur Springs; brother, Donald Shawver (Hilda) of White Sulphur Springs; half-brother, Matt Shawver of Raleigh, NC; and half-sister, Kelly Shawver Kesden of Sanford, FL.

At her request there will be no visitation or service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.

Paul M. Campbell, Jr.

White Sulphur Springs-Paul “Nucky” M. Campbell, Jr., 41, died Wednesday, Mar. 18, 2015, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.

Born Feb. 12, 1974, in Virginia, he was a son of Paul M. and Iona Charlton Campbell.

He was of the Baptist faith. “Nucky” was a former employee of the City Maintenance Crew for the town of White Sulphur Springs. He loved to recycle, hunt, and was a great outdoorsman.

He was preceded in death by one brother, David P. Campbell and his grandmother, Nora Campbell.

Other than his parents, he is survived by: his companion of 14 years,
