The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is hosting at Out of the Darkness Walk in Greenbrier County, bringing together community members, families, and advocates to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. The event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 19, at Island Park in Ronceverte, with the walk beginning at 1 p.m.
The Out of the Darkness Walks are held in hundreds of cities across the country each year as part of AFSP’s mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Funds raised from the Greenbrier Walk will support critical programs focused on research, education, advocacy, and support for survivors of suicide loss. Participants walk to honor loved ones, to show support for mental health awareness, and to help reduce the stigma surrounding suicide.
The event welcomes individuals, families, teams, and sponsors to register, walk, or volunteer. Participants can sign up or donate at afspwalks.org/Greenbrier, where they’ll find information on team fundraising, event logistics, and opportunities to honor loved ones. There is no registration fee to participate, and walkers are encouraged to raise funds to support AFSP’s mission.
AFSP is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing suicide through scientific research, public education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide loss. By joining the Greenbrier County Out of the Darkness Walk, community members can help bring light to this critical issue and remind others that help and hope are always within reach.
