Community talent featured in New Voices Play Festival

Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) presents its annual New Voices Play Festival, Feb. 6, 7 and 8, at 7:30 p.m. at GVT on Washington Street in downtown Lewisburg. There will also be a Pay-What-You-Can Preview Performance on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for General Admission, $12 for Seniors (60+) and $10 for Children and Students.

Greenbrier Valley Theatre hosts 6th Annual New Voices Play Festival

Now in its 6th year, the New Voices Play Festival accepts submissions of 10-minute plays from around the state and across the nation in order to assemble an evening of short form theatre, cast with actors from the Lewisburg area. For 2014, over 200 plays were submitted from which seven were selected. From comedy to tragedy and a few points in between, the plays chosen for the festival represent a wide range of subject matter and style, from heavy drama to the absurd.

The Croissant Connection by John Weagly, directed by Mary Leb, is about a chance meeting of a young man and an older woman who share lament over the loss of former loves as they feed the birds. It stars Lieselotte Hell and Ryan Ferrebee.

Fargo 3D by Eric Fritzius, directed by Ryan Ferrebee, depicts a beleaguered movie theater in which extreme security measures become necessary to prevent a loss in revenue. It stars Blair Hicks, along with Micah Labishak, Tom White, Chelsea Roper, Ryan Ferrebee, Summer Tincher, Fielding Foster, and Jed White.

The Drive-In by Connie Schindewolf, directed by Nathan Gwartney, is the story of a couple whose lives have seen tragedy who find a way to celebrate their anniversary at a drive-in movie without leaving their house. It stars Stephanie Bachman and Eric Fritzius.

Fish Shticks by Brett Hursey, directed by Eric Fritzius, depicts an existential crisis in the confines of a goldfish bowl. It stars Dr. Larry Davis, Curtis Pauley, and George Piasecki.

A Fond Farewell by Barbara and Carlton Mollette, directed by Nathan Gwartney, features a battle of wills between a first wife and a follow-up trophy wife at the funeral of their husband – a man who carries a secret to his grave. It stars Emily Haas, Chelsea Roper, and Derek Teaney.

A Kiss is Just a Kiss by Claudia L Haas, directed by Mary Leb, depicts a life-altering decision in the life of a woman, following the death of the woman she’s cared for most of her life – a decision inspired by a kiss. It stars Britany Wilcox and Derek Teaney.

Gift Horse by Donna Hoke, directed by Ryan Ferrebee, is set in a clothing store where a woman and a young man bond after she asks him to help her select a gift for her estranged son. It stars Kelly Kemp and Blair Hicks.
