Work is progressing for the initial classes in the Massage Therapy Certificate of Applied Science program scheduled to begin in August on the New River Community and Technical College Greenbrier Valley Campus, 653 Church Street in Lewisburg.
“The National Bureau of Labor Statistics reports employment in massage therapy is projected to grow 22 percent through 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations,” said Lisa Carter, personal services program coordinator for New River CTC.
Students will study anatomy and physiology, kinesiology and special types of massage including Swedish, Eastern, deep tissue, and sports massage and pathology in this two-semester program.
“Students will learn to communicate clearly with clients and other members of health care teams, evaluate symptoms and manipulate muscles and other soft body tissue,” Carter said. “Providing clients with guidance in self-care techniques is also part of the program of study.”
For further information on this and other programs of study at New River CTC, visit www.newriver.edu or call 1-866-349-3739. Offices are open Monday through Thursdays 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during the summer.
Also, the New River CTC Library, 129 Courtney Street, in Lewisburg, will be open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. during the month of July.
