Associate degrees and certificates were awarded to students in New River Community and Technical College’s Class of 2016 during the thirteenth annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14, at the Chuck Mathena Center, Princeton.
Over 150 graduates participated in the ceremony, which was attended by more than 900 people. In total, more than 350 students graduated from New River CTC this spring. Academic honors were designated to 120 students graduating with at least a 3.4 grade point average (GPA). In addition, over 50 graduates are members of the Phi Theta Kappa academic honor society for associate degree students with a 3.5 GPA.
Dr. L. Marshall Washington, president of New River CTC, welcomed the graduates, their families and guests. In addition to Washington, David Nalker, chair of the board of governors; Dr. John Mullens, parliamentarian of the faculty senate and professor of language and literature; and Cassy Basham, Raleigh County Campus student, addressed the graduates.
Washington and Janelle Schofield, New River CTC registrar, presented degrees and certificates to graduates.
The degrees awarded were Associate of Fine Arts (A.F.A.); Associate of Science (A.S.); and Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.). Certificates were also awarded.
