New River Community and Technical College is launching a Non-Credit Workforce Heavy Equipment Operations Program to meet the growing demand for skilled operators in the construction, excavation, and site development industries. This program will run from Apr. 14 – Aug. 1, 2025, at New River CTC’s Advanced Technology Center in Ghent, meeting Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The program provides hands-on training with dozers, skid steers, mini excavators, and backhoes, along with essential coursework in safety, equipment maintenance, and site assessment. By aligning with OSHA safety standards and industry best practices, the program prepares students for high-demand, high-wage careers in heavy equipment operations.

“This program is a great opportunity for students to gain the skills needed for a rewarding career in heavy equipment operation,” said Jimmy Lilly, Instructional Specialist for the Heavy Equipment Operations Program at New River CTC. “With hands-on training and a focus on industry standards, graduates will be well-prepared to enter the workforce.”

The program cost is $7,000, it is eligible for Workforce HEAPS funding and may be eligible for Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding.

Preregistration is required. Register by filling out a Workforce Education Form.

For more information, contact Jimmy Lilly at at jlilly@newriver.edu or 304-883-2450.
