New River Community and Technical College School of Practical Nursing held a graduation ceremony at Rhema Christian Center in Lewisburg on July 18.

New River Community and Technical College recently recognized the accomplishments of 33 graduates from the College’s School of Practical Nursing.

Joyce Egnor, RN, MSN, director of the nursing program, welcomed graduates, friends, and family. New River CTC President Dr. L. Marshall Washington and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Amy Sue DeSonia also provided greetings and remarks.

During the ceremony, students received nursing pins and lit candles symbolizing the lamp that was carried by Florence Nightingale in the Crimean War. Students also recited The Nightingale Pledge, a commitment to serve patients with the highest standards of care.

“Helping someone in their darkest hour is a gift that you will give, but it is also a gift you will receive in return,” said Dr. Washington. “The work you do will make all the difference to patients and their families and more broadly to our entire community.”
