On June 22, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced three West Virginia community organizations and agencies will receive $44,083 in Comprehensive Housing Counseling Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding will go towards counseling homebuyers, homeowners, low- to moderate-income renters, and the homeless on how to improve financial literacy, expand homeownership opportunities, improve access to affordable housing and preserve homeownership.
“In West Virginia, we understand the importance of supporting one another in times of need,” Manchin said. “We should do everything we can to make sure our neighbors have the necessary resources to get back on their feet, contribute to their communities and provide for their families. That includes offering counseling on how to become responsible homeowners. This funding will help West Virginians who are struggling to find a home and will also promote one of our state’s long standing traditions: neighbors helping neighbors.”
Individual awards are:
• $12,730 – Housing Authority of Mingo County (Mingo Co.)
• $13,942 – Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action (Kanawha Co.)
• $17,411 – Southern Appalachian Labor School Foundation (Fayette Co.)
