The Greenbrier County Health Department has confirmed that individuals at Greenbrier East High School (GEHS), Eastern Greenbrier Middle School (EGMS), White Sulphur Springs Elementary (WSSE), and Rupert Elementary have tested positive for COVID-19.\u00a0 Those identified as close contacts will be notified and quarantined.\u00a0 Students at the identified schools will learn remotely on the dates noted below to allow for contact tracing and additional sanitization. The timeframe varies based on Health Department guidance related to each unique situation.\r\n\r\nGEHS & EGMS students learn remotely Monday, November 9 & Tuesday, November 10.\u00a0 All schools are closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.\u00a0 Students return on Thursday, November 12.\r\n\r\nRupert Elementary students learn remotely Tuesday, November 10.\u00a0 The school is closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.\u00a0 Students return on Thursday, November 12.\r\n\r\nWhite Sulphur Springs Elementary students learn remotely Tuesday, November 10 \u2013 November 20.\u00a0 Students return on November 30 after the Thanksgiving Break.\r\n\r\nDuring the closure, all extra-curricular and athletic activities are canceled at the identified facilities until the end of the first day students return to their respective school.\r\n\r\nDue to the increase in COVID cases, the November 10 regular meeting of the Greenbrier County Board of Education will be entirely virtual.\u00a0 The meeting link is available at greenbriercountyschools.org.\r\n\r\nTo prevent the spread of COVID-19, everyone is urged to follow best health practices as issued by the Governor\u2019s Executive Orders and outlined by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) and the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) guidance. This includes wearing face coverings, and practicing social distancing, and frequent hand washing and cleaning protocols.\r\n\r\nRemote and virtual meal pick-up for the week of Nov. 9 will take place on Tues., Nov. 10, at each middle and high school location from. 12 - 1 p.m. Please remain in your vehicle and the meal boxes will be loaded. The Veterans Day holiday falls on Wednesday, November 11. Schools will be closed the week of November 23 -27 for Thanksgiving break. Meal boxes will not be distributed that week (Nov. 23 - 27), but will resume on Wednesday, December 2, from 12 - 1 p.m.
