Greenbrier East

Wrestling Newsletter

Congratulations to the Greenbrier East Wrestlers. The team took 3rd place at the Beckley Newspaper Invitational Wrestling Tournament. We finished higher than last year in every statistical category. Last year we had 3 finalists, this year we had 5 finalists. Last year we had 1 Champion, this year we had 3 Champions. Last year we scored 71 points, this year we scored 133 points. Last year we had 4 place-winners, this year we had 8 of our 9 wrestlers place at the tournament. WOW! Receiving awards for the Greenbrier East Wrestlers were Josiah Solak (CHAMPION), Charles Withrow (CHAMPION), Levi Nelson (CHAMPION), Jasiel Kinder (Runner-up), Keegan Mickey (Runner-up), Logan Evans (3rd. Place), Adam Zimmerman (3rd. Place), Evan Roberts (3rd. Place) and Katie Ervin (4th. Place). It was a good opening weekend for the Spartans. We reached our goal of improving every day, every week and every year! It was a Fun day and a big Thank You goes out to all the fans that travelled to Shady Spring to watch us compete. It’s neat to see the fan base continue to grow. Your loyalty is greatly appreciated!

TRIVIA: There is a new Principal at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School this year. He wrestled in High School in West Virginia and was pretty successful. What is his name and how successful was he?

Upcoming events and highlights

This Friday we will be travelling to Point Pleasant High School to compete in the Jason Eades Memorial Wrestling Duals Tournament. There will be 20 teams from throughout the state of West Virginia wrestling on Friday and Saturday. We will get to wrestle at least 8 different teams. We are so excited to see how we will do against some of the best teams in West Virginia. The good news/bad news is that we will have a few of our Wrestlers staying home to take their SAT tests for college. I will continue to make sure that EVERY Wrestler that graduates from our Wrestling program gets accepted into college. I am at 100% so far in my two years and I plan on keeping it that way!

Congratulations to the EGMS Wrestlers. They were the Beckley ‘Wayne Bennett’ Wrestling Tournament CHAMPIONS!! I love it!!! Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk

MILUK HUMOR: My daughter got her Report Card the other day. I told her that she should go into Marine Biology… Because all her grades are below C level. (Ha)

TRIVIA ANSWER: The new Principal is Mr. Jason Conaway. He was a STATE WRESTLING CHAMPION for North Marion High School. His team also won the Wrestling State Championships that year. Mr. Conaway also placed 5th. at the State Wrestling Championships his junior year. Bottom line: This guy is BIG-TIME!! He also played and loved football.
