HAPPY NEW YEAR! The Greenbrier East Wrestling team took some time off to be with family and friends this past week. YES! We took time to be with our families. WOW! What a novel idea. Don’t get me wrong. We train very hard. However, sometimes there are better ways to reach your final goals. Be a Good person and Good things will happen. Now, please take time to make your New Year’s resolutions a part of your “plan for success.” “Nobody plans to fail, they just fail to plan.”

TRIVIA: There have been 6 different Head Wrestling Coaches at Greenbrier East High School since they started the Wrestling program in 1969. Can you name the person who has coached wrestling the longest?

Upcoming events and highlights

The Greenbrier East Wrestling team is currently ranked #9 in the State. For information on Wrestling throughout the state of West Virginia follow WVMAT.com. This past week the Greenbrier East Wrestling team wrestled at the Greenbrier West Duals Tournament (Lindsey Raines Tournament). We also competed in the Alleghany, VA Duals Tournament. I will have results for you in my next article. Next weekend (Jan. 8/9), we will compete in THE TOUGHEST Dual Meet Tournament in the state of West Virginia. Over 32 teams from five different states will be there. We WILL be ready! On another note, I had the pleasure to talk with a couple college coaches about our seniors this past weekend. It never gets old bragging about the classy and hard working Wrestlers that come out of our Wrestling program. Our seniors are Jasiel Kinder, Brent Miller and Sheldon Simmons. They will succeed!

See Coach Miluk or one of our current Wrestlers about our “Adopt a Wrestler” program. It’s a great way to support our team and follow the success of our Wrestlers.

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: The Eastern Greenbrier Middle School Wrestlers are preparing for the Fayetteville Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2. It should be a very good gauge on the success of the middle school wrestlers. Colby Piner, Zach Mullins, Alex Zimmerman and Landon Hoover continue to lead the team with the most victories.

MILUK HUMOR: I am reading a Book about anti-gravity … it seems like I just can’t put it down. (Ha)

TRIVIA ANSWER: The Greenbrier East Wrestling Coach with the longest tenure is Coach Marion Gordon. Coach Gordon coached wrestling from 1976 until 1997. He coached over 45 State Qualifiers. His loyalty to Greenbrier East is still evident with his involvement with the successful basketball programs.
