Levi Hobbs, Jacob Hefner and Leslie Campbell continue to train for THEIR state wrestling championships. I am so proud of these wrestlers. I am also thankful to the coaches and wrestlers who continue to help them prepare. At this time of the season, they are prepared physically.

Yesterday, we had a long talk about being prepared mentally. Mental toughness! We told these guys that “Nobody ever said that it would be easy, so don’t expect it to be. No one is immune to everyday problems. Sometimes, you have to perform at your best when you’re feeling your worst. Block the hurt, the pain, the sickness out of your head for the short time you must perform. Shape up, get it together because excuses don’t count. Nobody cares if you are hurt or sick; you either do the job or you don’t.”

“Life is easy when the going is good.” Mental toughness comes into play when the going gets bad. “You must force yourself to be confident, enthusiastic and positive.” That is mental toughness. These are lessons that they will carry with them throughout their lives. As I have said, I am very proud of these wrestlers and the whole team as we finish our record breaking season. Dream on!

TRIVIA: Cayden Hoover won a regional championship this season as a sophomore. Can you name the only other Greenbrier East sophomore to win a regional championship?

Upcoming events and highlights:

We will be at the state wrestling championships (part II) at the Fairmont Armory on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 13 and 14. Check WVMAT.com for times, results and updates. Also, follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk

If you have not done it yet, please go to Facebook at WOAY Sports. There was a great video on WOAY Sports that gave our wrestling program some great recognition for their efforts. Great job to Tom Beal. He is Big-Time!!

SAVE THE DATE: Our wrestling banquet has been moved back to Tuesday Mar. 28.

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: Open mats for all incoming freshman after the conclusion of the state championships, starting Monday, Mar. 20.

Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club: They will be hosting a wrestling tournament in Ronceverte on Saturday, Mar. 11. Stop by to support the wrestlers and enjoy the competition.

Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk and Facebook at Greenbrier East Spartan Wrestling.

MILUK HUMOR: I don’t want to say that I am looking old, but the other day I walked by a cemetery and two guys followed me with shovels.  Ha-ha!

TRIVIA ANSWER: The only other sophomore from Greenbrier East to win a regional championship was Jasiel Kinder. He was also a three-time state place-winner and finalist.
