The Greenbrier East Wrestlers had the opportunity to wrestle in the “Lindsey Raines Memorial” Tournament at Greenbrier West this past Saturday.
We started off strong by beating Herbert Hoover 52-25, Tournament All-Stars 69-3, Midland Trail 73-3, and PikeView 64-18. This gave us a 4-0 record going into the championship match against Greenbrier West who was also 4-0. To say that the championship match was exciting is an understatement.
The match went back and forth with both teams winning seven bouts. However, Greenbrier West got the final pin to win it all. The atmosphere was loud, crazy, intense, exciting and GREAT for wrestling and our Greenbrier community. Congratulations to the Greenbrier West Wrestlers. This should set up a pretty nice showdown for the ‘Greenbrier County Championships’ at Greenbrier East High School on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. Both teams are ranked in the Top 10 in the state and continue to work hard to make Greenbrier County proud. I have been blessed through my many years of coaching to realize the positive impact wrestling has on developing life skills. Please make time and come out that evening to pay tribute and recognize these athletes for their efforts. I can guarantee you that it WILL be loud!
The wrestlers who went undefeated this past weekend were Landen Hoover, Levi Hobbs, Jacob Thomas, Jacob Hefner, Austin Dilly and Zach Mullins.
Trivia: Can you name the Wrestler who just won his 100th Match as a Greenbrier East Spartan?

Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club: This Club team could be one of the best programs we have had in a long time. Every time I get an update on their progress, I hear more names and more accomplishments from all the parents and coaches.

Miluk humor: My wife and I had a serious conversation the other day. She said to me “If I die, will you remarry?” After a long anxious discussion, nervously I said, “Probably.” Well, being avid golfers, she then asked me “Will you take her golfing and use my golf clubs?” I said, “No!” She asked, “Why not?” I said, “because she’s left-handed.” (Oh brother… I AM in trouble!) Ha!
TRIVIA ANSWER: The wrestler who recently won his 100th match was senior Aaron Davis. Aaron was on the West Virginia National Team this past summer and continues to improve. Congratulations Aaron!
