WE WE ARE ARE REGIONAL REGIONAL CHAMPIONS CHAMPIONS!!

No, I’m not stuttering, I am just so proud of this team for being 2x defending REGIONAL CHAMPIONS! Heck, it took 47 years to win the first one! This past Saturday we won the Regional Championship (In case I didn’t mention it. Ha!) over a very tough and solid St. Albans team. It was a total team effort and we needed every point. We took 13 wrestlers to the Regional Tournament and all 13 placed and qualified for the State Championships in Huntington. St. Albans had five individual champions and even took the lead in the finals for a while. However, we finished strong with five individual champions (a new school record) and Drew Bashlor sealed the deal with a pin at heavyweight. Our 13 Place-winners were Colby Piner (1st), Levi Hobbs (1st), Jacob Hefner (1st), Jacob Thomas (1st), Aaron Davis (1st), Cayden Hoover (2nd), Austin Dilly (2nd), Landen Hoover (3rd), Zach Mullins (3rd), Leslie Campbell (3rd), Bruce Humphreys (3rd), Drew Bashlor (3rd) and Waymon Browning (4th). The week before the Regionals we talked about the ‘fear of success’ and our wrestlers overcame that fear! This past week the coaches talked about ‘believing.’ You see, the high school rankings came out and they were all talking about the rankings. So, we asked the wrestlers ‘Who believes in ‘Big Foot’? A bunch of hands went up. Who believes in U.F.O.’s? Another group of hands went up. Who believes in God? Who believes in magic? Who believes in rankings? Etc. Bottom line: When you believe – you believe! So at the state tournament if you believe you CAN win than you CAN! If you believe you CAN’T than you CAN’T! So we told the wrestlers, “You better believe in yourself, because i know for sure that the coaches believe in you!” A big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us throughout the season.
