HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I hope that everyone has the “Attitude of Gratitude” during this holiday weekend with his or her family and friends. I know that the Greenbrier East Wrestling Coaches are Very Thankful for the opportunity to work for Greenbrier East High School and Principal Jeff Bryant. We are also very blessed to spend time and help develop a culture of success for our Wrestlers on and off the mat. Sometimes, when you want to be part of a successful program, you have to create it. Well, let me tell you, with this group of student-athletes, we are creating a foundation that is solid! A Big Thank You goes out to the community, friends and fans for all your support and kindness. TRIVIA: Greenbrier East will be wrestling in the Beckley Newspaper Invitational Tournament at Shady Spring on Dec. 7. Has the Greenbrier East Wrestling Team ever won that tournament?
Upcoming events and highlights
This year our five seniors will highlight the Greenbrier East Wrestling Team. Let me introduce them to you. Dylan Bullock is a Jr. State Champion, State Qualifier and on pace to win over 100 matches (Century Club) in his career. Keegan Mickey was a Regional Semi-Finalist as a sophomore and is now healthy again to get to the State Tournament. Levi Nelson was a Regional Finalist and State Qualifier last season. Joe Sampson was a State Qualifier and won a match at the State Championships last season. Charles Withrow, a returning Captain, was a Regional Champion and placed in the top 8 at the State Championships last year. We are very excited to see these Seniors take the role of leaders. The task of a leader is to get their followers from where they are to where they have not been. And we are going to be one of the top teams at the State Championships. TRIVIA ANSWER: The Greenbrier East Wrestling Team has never won the B.N.I. However, before last year, we never won the Covington Tournament or the Alleghany Tournament. Now, we are defending Champions! So, let’s see if the Greenbrier East Wrestlers can keep breaking records and win the B.N.I.
