Greenbrier East Wrestling Newsletter

MERRY CHRISTMAS! The Greenbrier East Wrestlers finished in 2nd place at our own “GREENBRIER DUALS” Tournament. The team won four matches by beating Wyoming East, Covington, VA, Oak Hill and Roanoke Catholic, VA. We wrestled a great match against the Champions Harrisonburg, VA, however, they beat us 39-36. A BIG Thank you goes out to all the fans and supporters who showed up and cheered us on. We did have four individual GREENBRIER DUALS Champions with Jasiel Kinder, Keegan Mickey, Charles Withrow and Levi Nelson going undefeated (5-0) for the day. Other Wrestlers posting victories were Katie Ervin (3), Logan Evans (4), Dylan Bullock (4), Sheldon Simmons (1), Adam Zimmerman (4), Michael Villars (2), Draegan McQuade (2), Joe Sampson (4), Paul Flowers (1) and Evan Roberts (4). It was a great opportunity for all our wrestlers to get some tough competition. It was also nice to wrestle at home and compete in front of our fans.

TRIVIA: Last year we had two tremendous Captains on the Wrestling Team and they led us to a record-breaking season. This year the Team and Coaches voted on our Captains. Can you name them?

Upcoming events and highlights

This Friday and Saturday (Dec. 27/28) we will be wrestling in Buena Vista, VA. It is a two-day tournament with some of the top teams in Virginia. There will also be some nationally ranked wrestlers. It is tough to practice and compete over the Christmas Holiday, but our Wrestlers understand that being a Champion is not a part-time endeavor. I read the Wrestling Rule Book again. Yes, you are allowed to work out on your own! You are allowed to be Great! As coaches, it is our job to create that opportunity for greatness.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Greenbrier East High School, we wrestle Beckley at 6 p.m. It is our only home Dual Meet. Please come out and support the team. It will be Seniors Night. We will recognize our seniors that evening.

Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk and the new Facebook page Greenbrier East Spartan Wrestling.

EGMS UPDATE: The EGMS wrestlers had their annual “Assembly” wrestling match in front of the whole school. It was great! They won the match against Buckhannon Upshur by a score of 69-9. This could be the best Wrestling team in EGMS history. Thank you to everyone who supports these wrestlers.

MILUK HUMOR: What do you call a kid who doesn’t believe in Santa? … A Rebel without a Clause! (Ha)

TRIVIA ANSWER: Last year, Captains Charles Withrow and Davis Solak led the team. This year’s Captains are Jasiel Kinder (Soph.), Josiah Solak (Jr.) and Charles Withrow (Sr.)
