Greenbrier East

Wrestling Newsletter

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHARLES WITHROW! The Greenbrier East Wrestlers finished in 2nd place at the Alleghany Duals Tournament this past weekend. The Wrestlers beat teams from Spotswood, VA, Salem, VA, Pulaski County, VA and William Byrd, VA before losing the Championship match against Alleghany High School. Individual Tournament Champions were Jasiel Kinder, Josiah Solak, Keegan Mickey, Charles Withrow and Levi Nelson all going undefeated. Other Greenbrier East wrestlers with winnings records were Logan Evans (3-2), Michael Villars (3-2), Adam Zimmerman (4-1), Sheldon Simmons (3-2), Joe Sampson (2-2), Evan Roberts (3-2) and Paul Flowers (1-0). This tournament gave us the opportunity to show off our individual talent. However, as a team we need to fill a few more weight classes. I really, truly, firmly believe that each of these people will be more successful in life because they are part of our Wrestling Program.

TRIVIA: Greenbrier East currently has 7 Wrestlers with 20 or more victories. Can you name them?

Upcoming events and highlights

This Saturday, Jan. 11, Greenbrier East will be wrestling in a tournament in Covington, VA. We are the defending CHAMPIONS! It feels like Déjà vu from our last article. There will be 10 teams there, all of them looking to beat the SPARTANS. Stop by and cheer us on. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m. The Beckley (Senior Night) Wrestling Match that was rescheduled will made up at a later date.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Greenbrier East will wrestle “THE DEFENDING STATE CHAMPIONS” Greenbrier West on Friday, Jan. 31 in Charmco. We would love to get a great crowd there to watch some of best wrestlers in the State of West Virginia. Rumor has it that there may be fan bus for 30 people. (More info to follow.)

Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk and the new Facebook page Greenbrier East Spartan Wrestling. Also, watch for our “Greenbrier East Wrestling Highlights” on your local cable channel 5. A Big Thank You goes to Joe Sharp and Greg Zafros for their efforts.

EGMS UPDATE:

The EGMS wrestlers travelled to Fayetteville to compete in a 10 Team Wrestling Tournament. Well, CHAMPIONS… Again. This is by far the best wrestling team in EGMS history. Six wrestlers went undefeated at 5-0.

MILUK HUMOR: I used to think I was indecisive, but now I’m not so sure. (Ha)

TRIVIA ANSWER: The 7 Greenbrier East Wrestlers with 20 or more victories are: Jasiel Kinder (27), Keegan Mickey (23), Logan Evans (22), Josiah Solak (22), Charles Withrow (22), Evan Roberts (22) and Levi Nelson (20). Wow! This is Big-Time! I am so proud of our whole team.
