Greenbrier East

Wrestling Newsletter

The Greenbrier East Wrestlers finished in 3rd place out of 10 teams at the Covington “War of Wrestlers” Tournament this past weekend. We travelled to the Tournament with 10 Wrestlers and 9 of them placed. We had 6 in the Championship match with 3 coming out victorious. Our Champions were Jasiel Kinder (113) CHAMPION, Levi Nelson (220) CHAMPION and Evan Roberts (Hvy) CHAMPION. Our 2nd place finishers were Josiah Solak (160), Keegan Mickey (170) and Charles Withrow (182). Other place-winners were Logan Evans (4th), Michael Villars (5th) and Adam Zimmerman (3rd). Our top 7 Wrestlers had a combined record of 30 wins and 4 losses. WOW!

TRIVIA: Three Wrestlers from Greenbrier East have placed in the top 3 at the West Virginia State Championships. Can you name them and their Coach at the time?

Upcoming events and highlights

This Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17 and 18 Greenbrier East will be wrestling in “The Big Blue” tournament in Christiansburg, VA. This is one of the Top 10 Tournaments in the country with nationally ranked Wrestlers and Teams. This will truly be our toughest test to date. Last year we had 5 wrestlers place in the top 8 and we went on to tie the school record at the West Virginia State Championships. So, after this weekend we will have a good idea in relationship to our goals.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

This Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. we will have Senior Night against Beckley at Spartan Gym. Please come out and recognize and pay tribute to Dylan Bullock, Keegan Mickey, Charles Withrow, Joe Sampson and Levi Nelson. Another great evening will be when Greenbrier East wrestles “THE DEFENDING STATE CHAMPIONS” Greenbrier West Cavaliers on Friday, Jan. 31 in Charmco. We would love to get a great crowd there to watch some of best wrestlers in the State of West Virginia. Rumor has it that there may be fan bus for 30 people. (More info to follow.)

Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk and the new Facebook page Greenbrier East Spartan Wrestling. Also, watch for our “Greenbrier East Wrestling Highlights” on your local cable channel 5. A Big Thank You goes to Joe Sharp and Greg Zafros for their efforts.

EGMS UPDATE: The EGMS wrestlers continue to succeed and climb up in the West Virginia Middle School rankings. Good Luck this weekend at the Coalfield Conference Championships. STAY HEALTHY!

MILUK HUMOR: I went on a joy ride the other day… I took my Mother-in-Law to the Airport. (Ha)
