Lewisburg-Michael L. Mitchem, 62, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at his residence.
Born Mar. 17, 1953, in McDowell County, he was a son of the late Carl Ellis “Buster” and Vergie Leona Mitchem.
Michael was of the Baptist faith and worked as a coal miner. He loved to hunt and fish.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Patty Lou Mitchem in 2009; an infant son, Michael Lee Mitchem and brothers, Morris Eugene Mitchem and Mark Steven Mitchem.
Surviving are: daughter, Reginia Ann Smith of White Sulphur Springs; two sons, Michael Shawn Mitchem of Lewisburg and Michael Angelo Mitchem of Rainelle; brothers, Charles Ellis Mitchem of Princeton, WV, Harvey Ray Mitchem of Abington, VA and William Calvin Mitchem of Portsmouth, VA; and sisters, Brenda Joyce Starcher of Siler, NC and Barbara Mitchem Sparks of Cora Peak, NC.
Services will be on Friday, June 12, at 12 noon in the Chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Brooks officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with the funeral expenses.
