Mean Mary and the Contrarys will perform at the Festival of the Rivers in Hinton on Sept. 5 and 6, on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 5:45 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m.
The event is free to all ages. The venue is located at 400 Front Sreet, Hinton.
Mean Mary’s haunting vocals and energetic banjo, guitar, and violin playing blend intricately with the expressive guitar work and deep harmonies of brother, Frank James, and the passionate drumming of Mindy Wright. This Nashville-based band mixes the power of rock with the raw innocence of folk and bluegrass. Their music is known to be incredibly fast and complex but always musical, always fun, and often kinda sweet.
Also known for their intricate story songs, Mean Mary’s original banjo song, “Iron Horse” (the story of Native American maiden and her horse racing against a train), recently won an IMA. Expect anything from ghost pirates and barefoot girls to demon guitars and iron horses to romp through one of their shows!
