The first weekend in December Trillium Performing Arts will host percussion workshops by Mark Davis at the Legendary Lewis Theatre located at 113 N Court Street. The workshops are $15 for one, $20 for two and $25 for all three.

Saturday, Dec. 6, there will be two workshops. The first will start at 11 a.m. and go to 12:15 p.m., during which participants will be taken from a body percussion/ speech piece that will transform itself into a full percussion piece using instruments. We will end up with a fun percussion ensemble piece. The second will start at 1:30 and go to 2:45 p.m., during which participants will learn how to manipulate duple and triple meters. Rhythms from different cultures around the world will be integrated. Bring a hand drum, if you can. Some instruction will be provided. Also, on Saturday there will be a free community drum jam at 3 p.m., open to everyone. Bring a drum or bucket.

Sunday, Dec. 7, there is one teacher training workshop. The workshop will start at 1 and go to 3 p.m., during which participants will look at the Orff approach to teaching, as well as experience some selected activities from all sessions with special focus on the teaching process. We will discuss what works and what doesn’t in the instructional setting.

For more information call the Trillium office at 304-645-3003, look on FaceBook or our website, or e-mail trilliumvolwv@gmail.com.
