Alderson-Marie Anne McCullough Shifflett Carter, 81, passed away peacefully at the Peyton Hospice house on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024.  Marie was born Sept. 8, 1942, in Roanoke, VA.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Troy Carter, her mother Madeline Montgomery, her stepfather Harold Montgomery, Sr.,  and brother Harold “Eddie” Montgomery, Jr.

She is survived by her children; Frank Carter (Cindy) of Lawrenceburg, KY, James Carter (Rhonda) of  Alderson, Vickie Terry (Tim) of Alderson, Billy Carter (Pam) of Ronceverte, Bernard Carter (Stacey) of Clarksville, TN; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Lantz Funeral Home, 101 Davis Street, Alderson, WV 24910, Friday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home, Saturday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Tim Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the Adkins Cemetery, Flat Mountain, with family members serving as pallbearers.
