Applications are now available for the 2015 West Virginia Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup. The annual event is jointly sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Division of Highways.

The cleanup takes place Apr. 6-19, and the registration deadline for those who wish to participate is Feb. 28. The Make It Shine program will provide resources such as cleanup materials, waste hauling and landfill fees to community groups volunteering to conduct litter cleanups on state streams or public lands.

Last year, more than 5,000 West Virginians participated in the cleanup, removing nearly 190 tons of litter. Many schools, 4-H clubs, scout groups and other community groups participated in the cleanup.

Applications for the cleanup are available by contacting the DEP’s Gregory Rote at 304-926-0499, ext. 1270, or by email at Gregory.A.Rote@wv.gov. Applications are also available on DEP’s website at www.dep.wv.gov. Click on “REAP” under the Land Section on the DEP homepage.
