Students in the Licensed Practical Nursing program at New River Community and Technical College sold cotton candy, snow cones and water during the Ronceverte River Festival this past weekend, earning money to help finance a review class before the students complete National Council License Examination (NCLEX-PN).
The LPN program at New River CTC offers an intensive 11-month certificate program designed to prepare students to practice as Practical Nurses in a variety of healthcare settings and at the conclusion of the classroom and “on the job” preparation, the students are eligible to take the National Council License Examination (NCLEX-PN), successful completion of which is required for practical nursing licensure.
In addition the New River CTC program is designed for career laddering, awarding appropriate transfer credit allowing for seamless transfer into more advanced nursing programs.
“While the college provides more than adequate training towards the NCLEX-PN, the students are wise in having a review course by a professional with whom they have not previously studied,” noted Roger Griffith, regional director of operations for Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas and Summers counties, who added the students in the LPN program come from throughout southern and central West Virginia as well as neighboring counties in Virginia.
