White Sulphur Springs-Linda Abbott Ahlers, 67, a resident of White Sulphur Springs, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
Born in Sioux City, Iowa, on Jan. 17, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence W. “Doc” Abbott and Ronnie Mildred Faucette Abbott.
Linda was a graduate of North Carolina State University. While living in North Carolina, she worked for the North Carolina Special Olympics, taught classes at Wake Tech, and worked for Medic Computers. Once she returned home to White Sulphur Springs in 2005, she worked for Med 3000. She also worked to preserve the buildings where her father, Doc Abbott, practiced medicine on Main Street. It is now a landmark known as “Abbott’s Corner.”
Linda is survived by: her only son, Jeffrey Abbott Ahlers, whom she devoted her life to; he was her greatest accomplishment and truly the love of her life; also her brother, Lawrence W. Abbott, Jr. of Huffman, TX; niece Tonya Casey and husband Joe of Gainesville, VA; and nephew Lawrence W. Abbott III of Ronceverte. She will be missed by her extended families in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and many lifelong friends
Her funeral service will be on Monday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Main Street. White Sulphur Springs, with Linda’s longtime family friend, Rev. Betsey Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mapledale Cemetery on Rt. 92, White Sulphur Springs.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Frankie Lemmon School & Development Center, 2301 Stonehenge Drive, Raleigh, NC 27615; Greenbrier County Special Olympics, 276 W. Bailey Road, Lewisburg, WV 24901; Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Fairlea, WV; or St. Thomas Episcopal Church Flood Relief Fund, P.O. Box 148, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.
