Travel & Leisure magazine recently announced the winners of an inaugural survey to determine America’s Favorite Towns. Lewisburg was among the winners.
The survey asked Travel & Leisure fans to nominate their favorite towns using social media channels. Lewisburg was one of 744 towns in 55 categories that were nominated, and 20 towns were hailed as winners.
John Manchester, mayor of the City of Lewisburg said, “Being named one of America’s Favorite Towns in Travel & Leisure is a testament to the variety of wonderful activities going on in Lewisburg – our special events, our arts, our shops, our restaurants – and the hard work of so many people to make this such an attractive, vibrant and welcoming town.”
Lewisburg was the only West Virginia town among the winners and shares the ranks with the likes of Aspen, CO, Beaufort, NC and Amelia Island, FL. “We are honored to be named among so many other fine towns across the country,” said Mayor Manchester. “We hope this recognition will draw many more visitors here to experience what we have to offer.”
Lewisburg adds this award to its long list of designations, including “America’s Coolest Small Town” by Budget Travel magazine in 2011.
During the summer, the Greenbrier County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) encouraged Greenbrier Valley supporters to tweet their favorite towns to Travel & Leisure. Alderson and Lewisburg were included in the online survey.
