The Lewisburg City Council met on Tuesday to sign a proclamation for National Police Week, announce the winner of the new City Hall piano paint design, hold readings for several ordinances, and other matters.
Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White read a proclamation acknowledging National Police Week for 2026, stating in part, “To honor the service of all law enforcement officers and the sacrifices of the men and women killed in the line of duty in 2025 while guarding our communities, and defending our democracy. We salute the men and women who do the difficult and dangerous work of safeguarding our communities.” National Police Week was observed from May 10 through May 16, 2026.
Next, Mayor White announced that D. Ray Bozic of Caldwell was the winner of the new piano design contest, held earlier this year. His submission, titled “County Roads Piano” will grace the front of the piano located out of City Hall downtown. “I am pleased to award this to him, and we can’t wait to see the rendering he will do, the pitch is beautiful,” said White.
Councilmember Arron Seams detailed recommendations from the Finance Committee meeting held earlier this month, with several task orders approved for Chapman Technical Group, including HVAC replacement at City Hall and funding for the water plant project and South Lafayette Street stormwater mitigation. It was also approved to hire Chapman Technical Group to act as the engineering service related to the North 219 CDS Grant for a water project, with the city manager negotiating a task order and City Attorney Tom White acting as attorney for the project.
A public hearing held in conjunction with the second reading of Ordinance 328 regarding downtown parking saw no public speakers. The second reading was held and then passed, with all council members voting in favor except for John Little.
The first reading of several new ordinances: Ordinance 329 for a site plan review, Ordinance 330 regarding the Board of Zoning appeals, Ordinance 331 regarding conditional use standards, Ordinance 332 for administrative items, and Ordinance 333 for the permit fee schedule were all held and approved unanimously. Councilmember Arron Seams noted that the permit fee schedule was also approved and recommended by the Finance Committee.
In other news:
City Manager Misty Hill said that Lewisburg hosted members of the Municipal Board for the first time “in several decades,” with attendees “raving” at a board meeting stating they will love to revisit the city “as soon as possible.”
Councilmember Franklin Johnson said that work on the Lewisburg Dog Park in underway, with an anticipated July opening date. He also noted that several grants have been submitted, with no response yet, to try and secure funding for new playground equipment at Hollowell Park.
