Leona Erma Ballengee Corker

Leona Erma Ballengee Corker, 87, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and love for her family and community.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1939, in Bellepoint, WV, to the late Paul and Erma Ballengee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters and one brother.

Leona married the love of her life, Bill Corker, on May 25, 1957. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering commitment. She was a dedicated wife and a loving mother whose greatest joy came from caring for those she loved.

A proud graduate of Hinton High School’s Class of 1957, Leona was known for her athleticism and school spirit. She was a standout Lady Bobcats basketball player and was honored with induction into the Hinton High School Hall of Fame for her achievements on the court. She also served as a cheerleader and was voted “Most Athletic” by her classmates.

Leona was a member of the Richlands CEO Club and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Fairlea. Her strong faith in Jesus Christ guided her life, and she was known as a loyal friend who deeply valued her relationships.

She found great joy in supporting sports of all kinds, especially cheering on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their activities.

Leona is survived by her children and their spouses: Billy and Diane of Shrewsbury, WV; Jeff and Linda of Roanoke, VA; and Shelley and Dave of Colorado Springs, CO. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren.

Leona will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, her deep faith, and her enduring love for her family. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Corker will be held on Thursday, May 14, at 1 PM at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Pastor Ronnie Cobb officiating, entombment will follow at Greenbrier Burial Park Mausoleum in Hinton, WV.
