Our beloved Leila “Lee” “Sis” Yvonne Camp Piercy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She suddenly passed away on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at the age of 94, in her home in Fairlea, WV.
Leila was born in Rainelle on April 11, 1930. She graduated from Rainelle High School and the Chesapeake & Ohio School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse. Her early nursing career included working at the old Greenbrier General Hospital, when she met her husband of 69 years and the love of her life, George Edward Piercy. Her nursing career continued as the head nurse of The Greenbrier Clinic and Greenbrier County Schools.
Leila was known as “Lee” to many of her friends, but to her family, she was known as “Sis.” She was a perfectionist and took pride in every life activity, including some of her favorites: parenting, mowing, gardening, baking, sewing, painting, etc. She was one of the most honest and hardworking women you could meet. One of Leila’s sayings was, “If you can’t do it right, then don’t do it at all.” She was the rock of her family and the wind and fire beneath their wings.
Leila is survived by two daughters, Donna and Leann; son-in-law, Bill; two sisters, Dorothy and Adrienne; grandchildren, Ben, Kelby, Kylie, and Kristopher; great-grandchild, Stetson; many nieces and nephews, and four-legged companions.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George; parents, Custard and Bertha Camp sister, Betty Jeanne; and her brothers-in-law, Charlie, Conrad, and Fred. Her family will greatly miss her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, WV. A graveside funeral service will follow immediately in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, WV. The service officiant is Robert McClintic, with a musical tribute by Jeff Bryant and Carrie Neese, lifelong friends of the family.
Pallbearers for the graveside service will be her grandchildren, Kelby, Kylie, Kristopher; son-in-law Bill, and two close friends Ralph McMillion and Chris Heaster.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her daughters, her nephew Mike, niece Lesley as well as those not able to be present, her oldest grandson Ben, nephew Greg, and niece Dorilee.
The family would like to thank the many doctors that cared for our mom over the years as well as the doctors and staff of Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and EMS for their compassionate and urgent care of her last few hours with us.
