After Ronceverte Elementary School teacher Mitsy McKee passed away this past March of melanoma cancer, her husband, Jamie McKee quietly put together a project to honor his wife, her fight against cancer and her love of early childhood education.
The resulting project is Mitsy’s Wings Corporation. This 501(c)3 nonprofit organization is taking on the mission of enhancing lives of those affected by cancer and providing scholarship opportunities in elementary education.
“The board of the foundation is very excited at the possibilities. Mitsy’s legacy is full of strength, devotion and love. We want to continue this legacy that matters so much to so many,” says McKee.
Mitsy’s Wings made it first contributions in November by helping two individuals. One is battling lung cancer and has to travel back and forth to Roanoke, VA. The other is battling breast cancer and has to travel back and forth to Beckley. ‘`It was a wonderful experience to be able to help these people and to see the relief on their faces,” says McKee. The expenses associated with traveling for treatment are overwhelming on top of fighting the disease.
At the end of this school year, a graduating senior from Greenbrier East High School will be awarded a scholarship to assist in pursuing a degree in early childhood education. There are plenty more people to help.
There are plenty more people to help. Your donations are going directly to individuals such as these worthy people who are in a daily battle.
The organization is currently accepting donations via mail at Mitsy’s Wings, P.O. Box 1187, Lewisburg, WV 24901. A tax receipt for your donation will be mailed back to you.
