Looking ahead to the post-holiday guilt, will you be ready to begin an exercise program but feel clueless or overwhelmed about what to do? Your first step could be to design your own fitness program.

The New River Community and Technical College Office of Workforce Education will offer a two-night community education class on Fitness Program Design just in time to fulfill your New Year’s resolution to get in shape. The class will meet on Jan. 7 and 9 from 6-8 p.m. at New River’s Workforce Education facility in Lewisburg.

Instructor Sherry McCormick-Hawkins will help you help you tailor a fitness program suited to your needs. Cardio, weight training and flexibility training will be discussed, along with the best techniques for fat and weight loss and busting those stubborn plateaus.

McCormick-Hawkins has been involved in the fitness industry for more than 25 years and has worked as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, exercise programmer, health club manager and nutrition and fitness counselor.

McCormick-Hawkins earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology and exercise science from the University of Texas at Arlington. She also has a master’s in kinesiology and health science from Stephen F. Austin University. She also is certified with ACE as a personal fitness trainer.

Tuition is $50, and preregistration is required by Jan 3. Please note that the college will be closed winter break from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. For more information, or to register, call 304-793-3001 or 304-793-6101.
