Alderson-Larry Kenneth Ball, 65, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Alderson.
Born Sept. 10, 1948, in Bluefield, he was the son of the late William Kenneth and Eleanor Kate Phillips Ball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Glen “Buck” and Edith Bransford Wilkinson.
Mr. Ball graduated from Athens High School in 1966 and attended Concord College, Athens. He was employed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, having briefly worked at Bluestone State Park and retired after 26 years of service at Pipestem Resort State Park. At the time of his retirement in 1995, he was the Golf Course Superintendent at Pipestem. Mr. Ball was of the Methodist faith and for several years during his retirement, enjoyed livestock farming.
Survivors include: his wife of 42 years, Gail Wilkinson Ball of Alderson; son, Brent Allen Ball and girlfriend Stephanie Kot of Beckley; brother, Walter Ball of Princeton; two sisters, Sharon Seets and husband Curtis of Vinton, VA and Nancy Jeffrey and husband John of Morgantown; a special uncle, Jimmy Ball of Lerona; niece, Katelyn Jeffrey of Morgantown; and nephew Jeremy Ball and wife Rochelle of Athens.
In accordance with Mr. Ball’s wishes, his body will be cremated.
Memorial services were held Thursday, June 19, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, where the Rev. Roger Williams officiated.
Private interment will be held at a later date at the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Williamsburg.
