The Greenbrier County Board of Education has appointed past board member and president Kathy King to fill the term vacated with the resignation of Stephen Baldwin, Jr. The Honorable Judge Robert Richardson conducted a swearing in ceremony at the Feb. 9 meeting of the Board of Education, held at Greenbrier East High School.

Kathy King, a resident of Ronceverte, served previously on the board for twelve and a half years, first appointed in January 2002, elected in May 2002 and serving through June of 2014. During that time she served as board president from 2008-2014 and was engaged in the process of hiring two superintendents. The board is currently in the process of hiring a superintendent to replace Sallie Dalton who will retire in June.

Seven individuals applied for the board position, which by law had to be filled by an Eastern or Central District resident.

King will serve on the board through June 30, at which time the seat will be filled by an individual who will be elected in the May 2016 election.
