Summer is in full swing and it’s a good time to explore your parks. Join a ranger or park partner for free hikes, talks, and other programs this July in New River Gorge National River and Bluestone National Scenic River. These guided activities provide a good opportunity to learn more about the natural world around us and the people and places that shaped area history.
This month’s schedule includes two special events, Thurmond Train Day (July 16) and Outdoor Adventure Fest (July 29-31). Be it a short walk through the historic railroad town of Thurmond, outdoor skills building mini-classes at Camp Brookside, or a day hike along the Bluestone River, these varied activities are a good opportunity for adventures in parks.
Visit the park web site at https://www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/programs.htm to see the complete July 2016 program schedule. Some programs do require reservations. Wear comfortable walking shoes for all guided walks. Water, snacks, a camera, and binoculars are other useful tools to bring along.
