On May 25, members of the JROTC from Greenbrier East High School assisted the American Legion Midland Seneca Post 0069 of Lewisburg with the placement of approximately 800 flags on grave sites in honor of the soldiers who have passed from this life.
The Cadets met with the Legion Members beginning at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. the morning of May 25. After placement of flags at this location they traveled to Rosewood Cemetery located on 219 North, just past Colonial Ford completing the flag placement at that location. On Tuesday morning, May 29 they returned to the cemeteries and removed the flags to be placed in storage and used next year for the same honor ceremony.
The American Legion Post would like to express their great appreciation to Principal Rouston of Greenbrier East for allowing the cadets to take time from their school schedule to help in the endeavor. A special thanks to Sgt. Jerry Long, teacher, who accompanied the cadets. We would like to express a special thanks also to Greenbrier County Sheriff Bruce Sloan who took time out of his busy schedule to provide transportation to cadets and assistance in flag placement. Should you have questions concerning the event please contact Joe Hendricks, post adjutant at 304-497-3212.
