Alderson-Jimmie Ray Carter, 82, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
He was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Summers County, the son of the late Dove and Daisy Alderson Carter.
Jimmie was of the Protestant Faith, a retired electrical mechanic for the Metro in DC and a Korean War Army Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 10 in Manassas, VA, and a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union #689 in Washington, DC.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons; Joseph Shannon Carter and Dustin Keith Carter; brothers, Jessie, Leonard and Marshall; and sisters, Zeola, Lucille, Gertrude and Vera.
Surviving are: sons, Michael Todd Carter of Manassas, VA, Bruce Andrew Carter of Winchester, VA, Linwood Bruce Carter of Manassas, VA, William Brett Carter of Manassas, VA and James Brandon Carter of Bristow, VA; the mother of his children, Norma Ratliff Carter of Alderson; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Eskins and husband Bill and Naomie; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial graveside service honoring Jimmie on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at Griffith’s Creek Cemetery near Alderson. A gathering will follow the graveside service from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at 300 South Monroe Street, Alderson.
