Janet Eloise Smith Brown

Alderson-Janet Eloise Smith Brown, 87, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 at the Greenbrier Health Center in Fairlea. 

Born Oct. 7, 1934 in Burnwell, WV, she was the daughter of the late Grandville Dewey and Thelma Agnes Barnhardt Smith. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Edward Brown, Sr.; sisters, Geneva Griffith, Betty Elam, and Mina Crowl; brother, Donald Smith; grandson, Robert H. Sutton; daughter-in-law, Sara Burns Smith Brown; and a fur baby, Sam.

Janet was a member of Griffiths Creek Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a devout Christian, animal lover, and a wonderful cook. Janet was an avid gardener and loved flowers. 

Survivors include sons, David E. Brown, Jr. and wife Brenda of White Sulphur Springs, and Brian C. Brown and companion Wanda Richmond of Ronceverte; daughters, Diana Carol Blevins, and Debora Sanders both of Baltimore, MD, and Nancy Sutton and husband Robert of Airville, PA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her friend of many years, adopted daughter, Corliss Thomas.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Lantz Funeral Home in Alderson where Pastor Audie Sorg officiated.  Burial followed in the Alderson Cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the Lantz Funeral Home in Alderson.
