JMTC Maverick Battalion Public Affairs Officer

James Monroe High School/Technical Center’s JROTC program achieved a significant academic milestone this year: our JLAB team advanced to the second round of the national JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB). This competition includes JROTC programs from across the United States as well as Department of Defense schools located on U.S. military bases overseas, making advancement highly competitive.

The JLAB competition is known for its rigorous academic focus, challenging students in math, science, language arts, current events, and JROTC curriculum knowledge. Cadets work as a team to complete a timed, online academic assessment that helps strengthen their problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills.

Participating cadets were Lexi Bird, Alexis Broyles, Sean Fuhrer, Christopher Kubes, Austin Riley, and Aiden Sapp. Advancing to the second round is achieved only by teams that perform strongly on these assessments.

In addition to building leadership skills, JLAB supports students’ academic growth, particularly in preparation for college entrance exams. The team’s advancement reflects their readiness and willingness to take on the challenge, as well as their commitment to academic success.

For more information, please contact Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Rebecca Crispin or Master Sergeant Jonathan Broyles at the JMTC JROTC Office at 304‑753‑6906 or audrey.crispin@k12.wv.us / jonathan.broyles@k12.wv.us.
