White Sulphur Springs-James Larry McClung, 79, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, in Florida.

He was born Apr. 12, 1940, in Greenbrier County.

Larry was the son of the late James and Myrtle McClung (Childers) and was preceded in death by two of his three sisters, Margaret and Susan, and survived by his youngest sister, Lynne McClung, now Tuckwiller.

He graduated White Sulphur Springs High School, then graduated from WV Tech, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Linda Mae Wright and they remained married until she passed in 2011.

As a Marine, Larry served two tours in Vietnam and retired as Colonel James L. McClung, after 30 well-traveled years in the Marines.

Larry is survived by his sons, Larry Shannon and Dane, their wives Deanne and Dawn; his grandchildren, Ian, Tyler, Logan, and Briana; his step-grandson, Michael; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces, great-granddaughter, Cadence, cousins, and other extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life was held Tuesday, Mar. 3, at Clifton Presbyterian Church in Maxwelton where Pastor Ron Miller officiated. Burial followed in the church Cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the National Museum of the Marine Corps – Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, USMCMUSEUM.com (18900 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Triangle, VA 22172) or to any charity where a donation will help those in need.
