Williamsburg – James Hubert “Jimmy” “Bunyon” Thomas, 87, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.

Jimmy was born in White Sulphur Springs on Aug. 24, 1929, to Reuben Knotley and Dolly (McClung) Thomas.

He was an avid hunter, especially bear hunting. He was selected to assist the WV DNR and the VA Tech game biologists in their research of bear habitat in the Cold Knob Mountain region. Jimmy, and his wife Ruby, owned and operated the Gulf station and Owens Milling Co. in Williamsburg. He was a founding member of the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Pentecostal Church in Williamsburg.

Including his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Crookshanks Thomas; son, James Hubert Thomas, Jr.; six sisters, Mary Waugh, Dolly Rhodes, Alta Gillilan, Dorothy Brewer, Virginia Brown and Genevive Hanson; five brothers, Clarence, William “Billy,” Robert “Bob,” William Paul and Harold.

Jimmy is survived by three sons, Richard (Linda) Thomas and Kenneth (Debbie) Thomas of Williamsburg and Wade (Evelyn) Thomas of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Justin, Chelsey, Daiem and Angie; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Gabby, Jacob, Samantha, Eli and Abby; three sisters, Glendolyn Bartholmew of Tampa, FL, Margaret Lou (Zemrey) Crookshanks and Frances Workman of Clintonville; four brothers, Reuben (Ruth) of Ohio, David (Violet) of Cornstalk, Jackie (Stephanie) of Lewisburg and Freddie (Beverly) of Clintonville. He is also survived by his buddy, “Chase.’’

Funeral services will be held at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. with pastor Steve Fogus officiating the service. Internment will take place at the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum in Clintonville.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.

Any donations of sympathy should be made to Williamsburg Pentecostal Church, 8577 Rader’s Valley Road, Williamsburg, WV 24991.
