Jacobey Gore, a high school junior and member of the Greenbrier East High School Golf Team, won the Calloway Jr. Golf Tournament at the par 70 Lewisburg Elk’s Club on May 31. Gore shot a 71 and finished first in the 17-18 year old boys bracket.
Gore will be a senior this coming school year and will lead the Greenbrier East High School Golf Team in their pursuit of their first regional title in many years, which will include a trip to the West Virginia High School State Tournament in Wheeling at the Speidel Course at Oglebay Park.
The Regional Tournament will be played at the Lewisburg Elk’s Club on Monday, Sept. 26, against nine other high schools in the region. The top two teams go the state tournament in Wheeling on Oct. 4-5.
Tryouts for the Greenbrier East High School Golf Team will begin on Monday, Aug. 1, at 4 p.m. at the new Greenbrier Valley Range and Recreation Center, in Fairlea, behind Sears, which is owned by Mark Falls. All players are reminded that they must have had a physical after June 1 before they can try out.
Greenbrier East has finished second and third out of the last six years in the regional tournament and had medalists Walker Dent, as a freshman, and Madison Erskine, as a freshman, qualify for the state tournament in two other years. This will be the seventh season for Coach Mac Parks and Coach Terry Koon.
