On Sunday, January 7, 2018, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers from the Greenbrier County Sheriff\u2019s Office and West Virginia State Police responded to the residence of Clarence Sheppard, 72, of Rupert, for a welfare check. Sheppard was the lone resident of his apartment, and a lack of contact by acquaintances and family members prompted the request. Officers entered the residence and found Sheppard deceased. The body was later transported to the State Medical Examiner\u2019s Office in Charleston for an autopsy. Upon conclusion of the autopsy, the medical examiner has ruled the death to be a homicide.\r\n\r\nThe investigation into the murder is ongoing.\u00a0 More relevant and specific details will be released when the status of the investigation will allow those disclosures.\r\n\r\nCorporal R. D. Baker and Deputy J. L. Pachis of the Greenbrier County Sheriff\u2019s Office are the investigating officers.
