The Greenbrier Historical Society and the North House Museum announce graveyard tours in the Old Stone Church Cemetery and the Pointer Cemetery Friday, Oct. 2 and Friday, Oct. 16.

Walk among the graves in these two cemeteries and listen to the captivating stories of historic Lewisburg townsfolk where they are laid to rest. Local community actors will portray these townsfolk and tell their stories. In order of appearance:

• Dr. William Parks Rucker, “Bridge Burner,” was a complete rascal who was the second most hated man in Virginia, after President Lincoln. Portrayed by Derek Teaney.

• David Creigh, “Greenbrier Martyr,” was hanged for protecting his home against Union marauders. Portrayed by Larry Davis.

• Isabella and James Caldwell, “The Strangling Angel of Children,” lost three daughters in three weeks to diphtheria. Portrayed by Kelly Kemp and George Piasecki.

• Dick Pointer, “African American Frontier Hero,” was honored for his bravery in the defense of Fort Donnally. Portrayed by Jay Jones.

“This is my third year doing historic tours for the Greenbrier Historical Society and the North House Museum,” said writer and director Pamela Barry. “We live in an amazing small town with a very rich history. It is so much fun to bring it all to life for everyone to see and enjoy.”

“The Greenbrier Historical Society is proud to sponsor Barry’s historic dramas. Pamela’s meticulously researched work supports the society’s mission to educate and enlighten the public about the history of the Greenbrier area,” said Toni Ogden, North House museum and education coordinator.
