Henning Church of God Women celebrate Christmas

The Women of the Henning Church of God along with guests met in the church fellowship hall for their Christmas celebration and dinner on Dec. 5. Sam Zicafoose sang, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

Carole Spencer, president, opened the meeting and August Hefner led in prayer. Dyan Hefner, spiritual life direction, gave the devotion, “The Real Meaning of Christmas,” with scripture reference from Luke 2:14-19. Many people think the real meaning of Christmas is gifts under the tree, cards, stockings and Santa Claus. However, this time of year is a time of love, healing and celebration of Christ’s birth even if someone had experienced sorrow at this time of year. Christmas is a great event. God sent His one and only son to die for us so we could be saved. We can be truly happy at Christmas because we know we are His children and can look to God for all our needs to be met.

All reports were dismissed.

Jamie Harvey thanked everyone for their help on the community Thanksgiving dinner. The food left over was donated to the Family Refuge Center. The tied with heartstrings apron project was a success. The group reported sending 116 cards, making 23 visits and 51 phone calls.

The group was reminded about Christmas caroling to be held Dec. 6 and Dec. 13. Project prayer for missionaries and Women of the Church of God leaders is Dec. 20. The children will present a play on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. entitled, “Star of Wonder.” The group will prepare dinner for the Maxwelton Ruritan group on Thursday, Dec. 21. The adult play will be held Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. entitled, “Wings of Christmas.” The church choir will present their Christmas cantata, “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” on Sunday morning, Dec. 24 at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to celebrate Christmas with our church family.

The group decided to cancel meetings for January and February because of winter. The next meeting will be held Mar. 6.

Secret pals were revealed from last year and new ones were selected. Joan Vance dismissed in prayer.

Attending were: Alice Coff, August Hefner, Barb Seldomridge, Betty Lou Byers, Bonnie Dodrill, Carole Spencer, Cindy Fleshman, Carol Spencer, Donna Scott, Dyan Hefner, Evon Persinger, Jamie Harvey, Joan Vance, Kim Brookman, Marsha Merritt, Marty Burns, Patty Owens, Pauline Perkins, Shirley Loudermilk, Sue Hunt, Rosie Blake, Scarlett Zicafoose and guests Helen Calain, Robert Hefner Jr. and Sam Zicafoose.
