The ladies of the Henning Church of God held their Christmas celebration on Dec. 3 in the church fellowship hall.
Carole Spencer presided and Dyan Hefner gave the opening prayer. A delicious covered dish dinner followed.
Barbara Seldomridge gave the missionary education report, “Why Jesus is better than Santa Claus.” She said Jesus is everywhere and Santa shows up around Christmas. Jesus supplies all of our needs and is there at the mention of His name. Jesus knows our name without asking and knows the number of hairs on our head, where Santa does not.
Dyan Hefner gave the devotion by Emily Barnes, “I didn’t believe it,” with scripture reference John 6:40. Barnes shared about staying in a hotel and the fire alarm went off. Some people stayed in the hotel because they did not believe it was real, in this case, it was a false alarm. How many people hear the Christmas story and do not believe it was real. Jesus Christ came to this earth and gave his life for us.
The group reported sending 91 cards, making 18 visits and making 65 phone calls. The group was reminded about upcoming events; Christmas caroling will be on Wednesday nights, Dec. 11 and 18, project prayer will be held at the church on Dec. 20 at 7 a.m. The group will pray for certain missionaries all over the world. The Christmas play will be that night at 7 p.m. The Christmas Cantata will be held Sunday morning, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. and the children’s musical will be held that evening at 6 p.m. There will be a connector rally on Feb. 8 in Teays Valley with the theme, “Jesus, use me please.” The WCG convention will be held in Beckley Apr. 25-26 sponsored by the Crosspoint Church of God.
Secret Pals were revealed and new secret pal names were drawn.
